Scandinavian Airlines-SAS (Stockholm) has previously communicated its decision to phase out the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82/87s and Boeing 737 Classics at its bases in Stockholm and Oslo and replace them with new Boeing 737 NG (New Generation). As a consequence SAS has signed an agreement to lease in five new 737-800s from GECAS. In addition, SAS has signed an MOU regarding the lease of 12 Boeing 737- 700s from GECAS.
SAS currently has 87 short haul jets at its bases in Oslo and Stockholm including 67 Boeing 737NGs, 11 Boeing 737 Classics and 9 DC-9-82s and DC-9-87s.
In line with this strategy to streamline its fleet, SAS has also made a decision to also phase out its DC-9-82s/87s at its Copenhagen base and replace with newer Airbus A320s. The replacement will start in 2012 and is expected to be completed by 2016. SAS currently operates 29 short haul jets at the Copenhagen hub including 12 A320s and 17 DC-8-82/87s.
